Daisy eyed up the grass in the next paddock. Lush and tempting but
full udders and heavy rain disinclined grazing outside of her byre.
MFT's stall opposite the countryside ring at the South Suffolk show
on Sunday 13th May was a great success despite the very, very wet
weather! Daisy, the Friesian cow was the star attraction. The wooden
and wire skeleton had been constructed by Chris Storey some nine years
ago and local sixth formers, as part of an art project, had applied
the muscle and flesh creating a lifesize and lifelike cow. Some nine
years later Daisy (after some waterproofing refurbishment) was once
again delighting people of all ages. Three year olds often performed
better at milking than the adults! Certificates were given to those
who accomplished the task.
The stall also sold farming books and cow artefacts.
£83 was raised and useful networking achieved.
Sincere thanks to the South Suffolk Agricultural Committee for their
support, to Nigel and Chris Oakley for the loan of the tent, to
http://www.ukagriculture.com
for loan of pictures, to Felicity Driver for artwork, to SB Surveyors for
the cow and concept, to Kirk Shrubshall for
donating his precious farming books and to Pat, Mr. Pearl,
Mr. Cross, Kevin, Alex and Miriam, for all their help on the day.
